It has been a couple of days since my last entry but this last week was just really busy and I did not think about blogging till one of my work colleagues reminded me today. You see while he has the luxury of blogging during the course of the day while observing the Kazakhstan Consulate, I am running around like a mad man helping users in need. That for another entry though, today I have something a little more detached from work.
I got on the train heading home and took a good 40 minute nap before I got to my stop. Once I got of my stop I had the pleasure of talking to a very well spoken Gambian woman. It was quite a joy and it made the 25 minute wait for the number 56 seem like an ok wait. Sadly my new friend who works for the world bank opted to take a cab instead of the 56 and I was left with the masses struggling to get on the bus in order to secure a window seat. Usually I do not mind the bus, you find a seat no one sits next to you and you do your thing. Unfortunately today two very very immature ghetto girls hopped on with the mix of young professionals, hard working middle class men and women and the usual mix of everyone else that rides the bus.
How you dress is none of my business infact I honestly couldnt care less if you came on the bus wearing nothing at all. What does make me really annoyed however is when you come on the bus and live up to the stereo type that everyone has assigned to you. Your friend wants to sit at the front of the bus and you want to sit at the back so you split, now instead of sending text messages or just waiting until the ride is done you decide nooo, thats too tough so in your GHETTO ASS VOICE you start to yell up and down the bus. Absolutely ridiculous, the bus is my after work sanctuary until I can get down to my basement and unwind completely. Not forgetting the fact that little 6 year old kids ride on the bus it does not really help if you can not contain yourself because you just discovered how to drop an F bomb.
When the driver tells you to keep it down and you start getting your panties in a bunch, just take a second and look at yourself and ask "how stupid do i look like now?" What saddens me about this whole situation is these young African American girls didnt look like they had much going for them and after visiting a court last week and realizing that the majority of the cases were based around African Americans I did a little research...the numbers are shocking.
So what is it with these girls? Do they have no self respect, is this a sign of the kind of parenting skills their parents have? I am not sure but one thing I do know is when the cops come and lock you up there is a chance that you will deserve it.
Another really sad point is I feel as an African African a need to disconnect from these types of degenerates if I may use such a word, they are the kind of people I see and cross the street and that is not how life should be. I shouldnt have to worry about associating with people of any race, creed or color and yet somehow there are some individuals that manage to force this.
Reading the paper today there was an article about a proposed purple line. One side you have people living in a not so hot neighbourhood saying they need an easier way to get to work and that it would create job oppurtunities and on the other side you have the rich community saying we do not want to open the doors to "them".
A little more of a rant, but how do you feel about how people act in public especially when they portray the whole ghetto thing? Do you sit back, say something or get of the bus.

Good post. I think that 'ghettoness' is rampant in the white community too, just not in DC. It's sad though for sure. It's good of you to detach from it. I try not to view it as an ethnic/racial divide and more of just a lack of respect and education.
@ConArtist : You make a good point.. I must say though it is definitely something that should be addressed at some point, maybe the simple men and women of this world need to take a more responsible stance and initiate things as opposed to just sit and complain about it or turn the other way and cross the street etc.
