Congratulations are in order
Its good to see that life is not a dead end and with enough effort you will get where you want to be.
So here is a little shout out to my fellow blogger "My Thoughts"
Good luck and do not for the love of " " become a stranger. I wish you all the best in your new career and I am sure our paths will cross from time to time. You managed to climb from the ranks of generic user to person I can ask for favors to person I can rely on. One of the best things is you showed me to a certain extent how to deal with mental terrorists..
So good luck, thanks and well see you saturday.... at you know the lucky place
"May your life be like a good scotch, clean clear and smooth, improving with each passing year..."
of men and mice...
A little softer than usual... but what the hell right? Not everyone is healthy enough to have a front row seat in our lives.
There are some people in your life that need to be loved from a distance.
It's amazing what you can accomplish when you let go of, or at least minimize, your time with draining, negative, incompatible, not-going-anywhere relationships/friendships.
Observe the relationships around you. Pay attention. Which ones lift and which ones lean? Which ones encourage and which ones discourage?
Which ones are on a path of growth uphill and which ones are going downhill? When you leave certain people do you feel better or feel worse?
Which ones always have drama or don't really understand, know or appreciate you?
The more you seek quality, respect, growth, peace of mind, love and truth around you, the easier it will become for you to decide who gets to sit in the front row and who should be moved to the
balcony of your life.
"If you cannot 'change' the people around you, change
the people you're around."
Talk to me people.

Mental Terrorists
So I have a few minutes to kill before I go and meet some friends I met this last week. I was talking to a friend today and we were both wondering why break ups take so long and how girls always seem to come out on top..We came to a conclusion, at some point when a couple decides they do not want to be together any more, instead of doing the mature thing and saying lets call it quits and go our separate ways. The more difficult path is usually chosen and this is where all the petty arguments come in. You fight about why there is no more detergent and yet when you first started dating you went shopping together and did laundry together.
You argue about the thermostat, the amount of gas in your imaginary car.. the list is endless.
The way it plays out is most guys feel like they have won the argument when the girl concedes or she sheds a tear in which case the guy in question feels bad and says sorry. This cycle continues for a while but really you are prepping your girlfriend for her final assault. While men will fight battles out in the war fields... Girls are a little more cunning, they use terrorist tactics. I am going to touch on one such tactic now.
During the course of the argument, the girl slips some comment in. The comment is about something that was a somewhat sensitive issue and it took you all your heart to tell her. She abuses that week point and well in the heat of the argument you do not really think about it but later on you are like wow that hurt. You see girls seem to use the small ammo here and there, they plant seeds till eventually you fall apart. Pretty ingenious actually, as opposed to the full on frontal assault where you wind up feeling guilty and saying sorry.
The icing on this terrorist cake is when she tells you to stop calling because she is seeing someone else and he doesn't appreciate it or she puts all this pictures on facebook... Twitters about him all the time etc. It takes guys a while to heal from that kind of thing but that good part about it is... It does end... and when it does when you stop caring, they come back one last time to try see if you are still interested and if maybe they can take you for one more round in battle.
I was quite intrigued by this theory and I am wondering what everyone else is thinking.

goggles and bellies

Ever since I moved to DC life has been a ride for me. It started off slow but as time progressed I have found myself engaging in all sorts of activities making new friends, keeping in touch with old friends and basically orienting myself to the change in pace and lifestyle that one experiences when you move to a place like DC coming from the New York metro area.
One thing remains true however, I still like to party like a rockstar. It is tough because each time I do go out in DC I need to make the appropriate plans to get home in one way or another, I know the metro stops running at midnight for instance and there is no way I am willing to shell out the required 50 or 60dollars to take a cab home after that. So that leaves very few options.
Last night I attended a social networking event which was absolutely great. It was sponsored by a couple of big wigs and well there was food and booze and a lot of people to meet there. The event went well and I actually networked with some amazing people some of whom work for NASA and all sorts of other great places.
There were some ok looking girls at the begining of the night and later on after a few drinks they looked a lot cuter and quite palatable. I was wondering what if this was the chain of events..
We continue hanging out and have a great time, I happen to miss the metro and call a friend desperately trying to figure out how to find a place to sleep and how to get home. That falls through so i decide to go back and after a plethora of shots, I go home with the one girl, solving one issue I do not need to ride the metro anymore.
So I wake up the next morning at 5am, and take a peek at this girl and realize all of a sudden she is not a 9.95 but maybe a low 7? WTF. Beer goggles my friend thats what.
I always wondered what it is about alcohol induced encounters and if its a secret part of our lives coming out or if it is just lack of judgement and character. Alcohol can do many things to us, make us happy, sad, horny, tired... wired. If there is an emotion there is a type of alcohol that can bring it out in all of us.
What are your thoughts on this? How do you get when you drink and do you ever regret the encounters or shrug it off and call muligans?

In the ghetto...

It has been a couple of days since my last entry but this last week was just really busy and I did not think about blogging till one of my work colleagues reminded me today. You see while he has the luxury of blogging during the course of the day while observing the Kazakhstan Consulate, I am running around like a mad man helping users in need. That for another entry though, today I have something a little more detached from work.
I got on the train heading home and took a good 40 minute nap before I got to my stop. Once I got of my stop I had the pleasure of talking to a very well spoken Gambian woman. It was quite a joy and it made the 25 minute wait for the number 56 seem like an ok wait. Sadly my new friend who works for the world bank opted to take a cab instead of the 56 and I was left with the masses struggling to get on the bus in order to secure a window seat. Usually I do not mind the bus, you find a seat no one sits next to you and you do your thing. Unfortunately today two very very immature ghetto girls hopped on with the mix of young professionals, hard working middle class men and women and the usual mix of everyone else that rides the bus.
How you dress is none of my business infact I honestly couldnt care less if you came on the bus wearing nothing at all. What does make me really annoyed however is when you come on the bus and live up to the stereo type that everyone has assigned to you. Your friend wants to sit at the front of the bus and you want to sit at the back so you split, now instead of sending text messages or just waiting until the ride is done you decide nooo, thats too tough so in your GHETTO ASS VOICE you start to yell up and down the bus. Absolutely ridiculous, the bus is my after work sanctuary until I can get down to my basement and unwind completely. Not forgetting the fact that little 6 year old kids ride on the bus it does not really help if you can not contain yourself because you just discovered how to drop an F bomb.
When the driver tells you to keep it down and you start getting your panties in a bunch, just take a second and look at yourself and ask "how stupid do i look like now?" What saddens me about this whole situation is these young African American girls didnt look like they had much going for them and after visiting a court last week and realizing that the majority of the cases were based around African Americans I did a little research...the numbers are shocking.
So what is it with these girls? Do they have no self respect, is this a sign of the kind of parenting skills their parents have? I am not sure but one thing I do know is when the cops come and lock you up there is a chance that you will deserve it.
Another really sad point is I feel as an African African a need to disconnect from these types of degenerates if I may use such a word, they are the kind of people I see and cross the street and that is not how life should be. I shouldnt have to worry about associating with people of any race, creed or color and yet somehow there are some individuals that manage to force this.
Reading the paper today there was an article about a proposed purple line. One side you have people living in a not so hot neighbourhood saying they need an easier way to get to work and that it would create job oppurtunities and on the other side you have the rich community saying we do not want to open the doors to "them".
A little more of a rant, but how do you feel about how people act in public especially when they portray the whole ghetto thing? Do you sit back, say something or get of the bus.

Hammerhead I.P.A. : Named after a night of drinking these, this I,P.A. is unfiltered and full flavored. The balance comes from a delicate combination of four different malts and four hop variations.

Irvington Pale Ale: A classic version of British pale ale. This beer is pale-copper in color and generously hopped with a dry, crisp, full bodied malt flavor.

Razzputin Kölsch: Our raspberry Kolsch is pale gold with light body and a slightly dry palate with a hint of raspberry. Medium hop bitterness and light hop aroma.

Sunset Coast Lager: An unfiltered West Coast lager. This beer has the best of both worlds. The aroma has a definite aromatic profile of a lager and the slight bitterness of an ale. Very well balanced and clean with complex fruit and malt flavors.
West Side Pilsner :The West side Pilsner is a very light, slightly floral beer. We use only the finest imported malt and hops to create this wonderfully refreshing brew.
Uber Brown : A light colored, sweet brown ale with hints of caramel and chocolate in flavor and light hops in aroma.
Yorkshire Porter: True British style ale, this beer exhibits some coffee and chocolate flavors along with a very light hop profile. We use traditional British hops and malt with our house ale yeast to produce this lighter version of a stout.
Huckleberry Lin : The Huckleberry Lin is our Kolsch with fresh pureed Huckleberries to give it a deep purple color and delicate berry sweetness.
Pumpkin Haze: Strong ale with a copper color and a heavy malt flavor, seasoned with Matt's own pumpkin patch secrets.
Hoppopotamus Double I.P.A.: This unfiltered Imperial I.P.A. is the "BIG" brother of our Brass Lantern I.P.A. The "Hoppo" is full flavored and full bodied with extra to spare! We dry hop with fresh whole leaf Cascade hops during maturation.
Hopocalyptic I.P.A. : A bold I.P.A. with fresh, spicy Argentina Cascade and Amarillo hops complementing the large hop profile and distinctly clean finish.
Saber-Tooth Squirrel Nut Brown : A crisp, clean nut brown ale, biscuit in flavor, with a malty aroma. A great Autumn ale for those brisk October days. This beer profiles a bold amber-red color to embrace the days of fall.
Broken Shovel Stout: A very dark, almost black, top fermented brew made with highly roasted chocolate and black malts. This stout is full bodied and lightly hopped.
Black Widow Stout: A robust stout with undertones of chocolate and burnt flavors and a smooth clean finish. Our stout is lightly hopped to balance the malt profile.
Butler's Peach Ale:This brown ale has been infused with locally grown peaches to give it a very unique and refreshing flavor. Our Peach ale is very lightly hopped to balance flavor and aroma.
Downtown Mild Brown :A clean traditional style British-Mild. Low hops and rich malt flavor and aroma make this beer a great low carbonated session beer.
Iron Curtain Stout :This Imperial Russian Stout is a full-bodied, rich stout that contains all the flavor and malt to be called Imperial. This beer has a low to moderate levels of carbonation with huge roasted, chocolate, and burnt malt flavors.
Engine House Ale :An American Golden Ale. This beer has a nice straw color, balanced hop bitterness, and a pleasant dry finish.
Firkins and Pins : We take one of our house brews and add a mix of sugars and hops to force an additional fermentation. This creates a wonderful twist of aromas and flavors true to British cask conditioned ales. We dispense the ale through a beer engine to ensure a foamy head and true compliance to this tradition.

The world in your hands

So today is Saturday, college game day starts right about now. I am sitting at my local pub with my laptop watching as I start to plan the day. The waitress comes over to my table and looks extremely confused, I don't blame her... There is a reason to my madness. I do not own a TV, I watch all my TV on my laptop connected to a larger monitor, however due to the shortcomings of my landlord my room was about 45-50 degrees today with my personal heater on. This made for some rather brisk conditions couple that with the fact that we do have a 60inch High definition television in the lounge but my roommate Jenny is watching 13 going on 30 and will not agree to change the channel I was forced to resort to slightly desperate methods. At least here at the pub by securing my seat early I can order brunch and know that it is fresh... Eat at my own pace and type away at my blog.

Help....

So a little bit about me... A while ago, almost six months ago now, I moved from the town I had lived in for close to six years to be closer to family and to try some new things. I figured it would be a lot easier living close to family and honestly I thought I was ready for a change.
The first three months of my stay in the DC/MD/VA area were a blast. I did all sorts and I was all over the place, Atlantic City to Manhattan it was great and I pretty much lived of my savings. At some point I decided I needed to start working again funds were running low and well we all know what the market outlook is like so the search began. I found a few jobs but one in particular appealed to me because of the chance to make a change.
I found myself working for a non profit in the Help desk and well so far it has been great, I have made some very good friends along the way. One of those friends inspired me to start blogging and as such I decided what better way to start than with a little back story.
